HIV and the Church

You are never too young to make a difference! One of the core values of Saddleback Church is that every member is uniquely shaped for ministry. This culture is not reserved for adults only, but extends to student ministries as young people are given the opportunity to actively serve their community and spread the love of Jesus to those around them. The Junior High ministry at Saddleback held their “Impact OC” weekend where hundreds of students were given the opportunity to serve in various capacities throughout Orange County, including partnering with the HIV&AIDS Initiative to serve people living with HIV and AIDS in our community. Students took the time to carefully shop for, assemble and hand-deliver care baskets to several individuals living with HIV in our church family. The baskets were filled with snacks, comfort items, and notes as a tangible representation of how our ministry cares. This unique interaction lent the students an opportunity to learn more about what HIV is, as well as a chance to simply show up and show that Saddleback cares. One of our ministry members who received a care basket from the students exclaimed, “I’m just so grateful! It was very nice of them [students] to be so considerate and so young.” We love that Saddleback’s Junior High Ministry invited their students into an opportunity to serve their community and to show the love of Jesus to the people around them! This serve project didn’t require any special qualifications from the students- they just cared!
